One day a florist goes to a barber for a haircut. After the cut he asked for the cost and the barber replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The florist was pleased and left the shop.
When the barber goes to open his shop the next morning there is a 'thank you' card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a grocer comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, 'I cannot accept money from you. I'm doing community service this week.' The grocer was happy and leaves the shop.

There is lot of discussion and research on motivation of employees. What actually drive them to stay in the organization is always a question. Human being will have different aspirations, inclinations and drive in their life, however fundamentally they work for their livelihood. They want to make their and their family life easy and future safe and everybody should do that. During compensation review season, there is lot of discussion around water cooler. Salaries of friends are publicly discussed and sometimes people are unhappy with the rise others get and not what they get. As per the Kenexa research only 51% employees in multinational companies feel that they are fairly paid.

Recently, I was just spending my time at Shopping Mall in Shanghai. People have lot of spending power. There is a craze of all Apple products which are very costly even in China. However now a days it is a status symbol to have the i-phone and i-pad, whatsoever cost may be. I was just doing the window shopping and observing the people behaviour including of salespeople. What is the consumer behaviour?
One of the interesting behaviour , I observed, is “mirroring”. Salesperson was trying to copy the gestures, language, and facial expression of his client. If the buyer speaks very slow and quietly, scratching his head, salesperson also copies the same behaviour of the buyer. This behaviour makes him likeable in the eyes of the buyer and the deal is more likely. What advertisements do? They project the same behaviour of consumer to attract them. This is a “Liking Bias”.

Rajesh was our performing sales manager. He was always ahead with setting ambitious targets and putting the number in place. He had a target for volume of sales and acquired new business. He was travelling a lot in a year and away from his family on week end and holidays.
Although he was successfully implementing his plan and having positive results towards meeting his goals, he was not overjoyed. Why? It had nothing to do with his job, but had all to do with his family life. He missed time spent with his wife and sharing memorable experiences with his son. He was away from home too much.
One day, he was discussing with me his pains and reaction of his wife and son.
“It is hard time for me, on professional front I am successful, but on personal front, I am totally disturbed.” He told. He was missing a lot his wife and son and even they also were missing him.

This story is taken from the internet, but I see always the connection with it. This story is beautiful example of kindness and external orientation without showing it.
A man and a young teenage boy came to a hotel and were shown to their room. The two receptionists noted the quite manner of the guests and the pale appearance of the boy. Later the man and boy ate dinner in the hotel restaurant. The staff again noticed that the two were very quiet and that the boy seemed to be disinterested in his food. After eating the boy went to his room, and the man went to reception and asked to see the manager. The receptionist initially asked if there was a problem with the service or the room and offered to fix things. Man said that there was no problem to sort with and repeated his request. The manager was called. The man asked to speak privately and was taken to manager’s office.
